Doors.

I am fascinated with doors. The possibilities, the experiences & the surprises.

The inclusion & the exclusion, it comes from a simple door.

They are the most common piece of any structure. Each and every home, church, business, they all have them. The most wealthy and the poorest of the poor, they all have them. We ALL must enter and exit through these things called doors.

Of course, we have taken the simplicity out of doors. We have countless metaphors and sayings involving doors… You can find a quote about a door to fit just about any conversation, and can even cater it to make your point. We now have all of these imaginary doors, philosophical doors if you will, these types are just very confusing.

Because doors are simple, THEY OPEN & SHUT. They’re beautiful in that way. 2 choices.

(Please don’t hear me saying to stop using the image of a door, I love it, I really do. I only want to offer another, and maybe a bigger image of a door.)

We are each the same as a door, 2 CHOICES. To follow and honor God, or to not.

And if we choose #1, to follow and honor God, then we are OPEN DOORS.

We accepted and have within us, Jesus Christ, and have the privilege of sharing His name in any and every door we step through! We also have the privilege to invite others into our lives…to be inclusive, sharing, hurting and rejoicing together.

And then following that first choice, God has created millions…billions of choices of beautiful doors to enter and enjoy. I am referring to the real doors, the PHYSICAL doors, the doors that belong to your best friends, your family, your church, the airport, your target…(oh, how I wish I could go through that door more often) I am thinking of the schools, the gyms, the cafeterias, the gas station, and your workplace.

I think of the people inside those doors, the ones that made my day, or they might have changed my life. The doors I grew up in, the doors I went to college in, and now my own door that I share with my husband.

I am choosing to change my perspective to be grateful for all the physical doors that God has provided, instead of focusing on the philosophical doors that He may or may not be closing or opening. Maybe, just maybe, if I pay more attention to the physical doors and people in my life, I will see the countless opportunities and open doors God has created.

Our hope and prayer in this blog is to share our door and some of the doors that God has led us to through our journey. The door in this picture is where we were married, and each of the posts before this one tells a story of how God brought us to where we are today. We are excited and hopeful to one day share our physical door with you as well, but until then…we will share together here.
